Summer Safety Reminders for Memorial Day

Memorial Day SignMemorial Day is a time to remember those who gave their lives in service to our country. It is a time when summer activities get into full swing. It is also when we could use some reminders and tips about remaining safe during Memorial Weekend and the upcoming summer.

Travel dramatically increases over the weekend, so make sure you stay alert. Use defensive driving skills and always use safety belts. Make sure you do a quick safety check of your vehicle, checking the condition of wipers, tires, brakes and lights. Of course never drink and drive.

Cooking Out

Never use a grill in an enclosed area. Use the proper long handled grilling utensils and keep clean them, and your grill, after each use. Take steps to keep cold foods cold, and cook meats properly.

Never mix alcohol with water and obey watercraft safety guidelines. Make sure every passenger has an appropriate flotation device.

If you will be out in the sun for awhile, make sure you wear a hat and use sunscreen. Use mosquito repellant and wear proper shoes for your planned activity.

It is also a good time to make sure you have the appropriate insurance coverage. Contact us at Sagen & Associates, with offices in Brodhead, Wisconsin.
